I Almost Forgot This One!

This Paisley Party quilt top was lost under a pile of fabric scraps,  I really did forget about it for a while.  I guess it's time to do a little organizing.

I remembered it when Miranda asked how many quilts I would have ready for the Cedar City July Jamboree.

My sister Shelley did most of the quilting on this, which is a medium sized stipple.  She brought a quilt top from Idaho to quilt and needed to practice on the HQ Sixteen.

She did very nice work, you would never guess it was her first time.   The size of the quilt is about 40x48 and the batting is 80/20 cotton poly.  These colors are very vivid, perfect for a summer quilt.

What I Did Today!

I finally finished two more string blocks so I could complete this throw pillow for Tennyson's bed. 

I deciced to make a couple of pillowcases with the extra "Paisley Party fabric.  

One done with orange and

One done with yellow.

I used the excellent tutorial from "Film in the Fridge".

I think the little strip of trim gives them the perfect finish.

I'm All Ready!

The last quilt for the quilt show is finally complete.  This is Tennyson's Triangle Tango.  What a fine alliteration.

This is Red Rooster's Paisley Party fabric.  Very bright and tropical.

I don't know what to call the quilting pattern.  I just kind of made it up as I went along.  It kind of reminds me of seaweed, floating to the side.

Luckily, I purchased extra fabric.  I will be making some curtains, shams, and throw pillows.  I don't have enough for a bed skirt though.  I will have to come up with something.  This old one just doesn't work very well.

  I got some cute pictures and mirrors to put on the walls from Ikea.  I can't  wait until it's all finished. 

These are the labels I have been putting on all 9 of the quilts that will be in the show.

I used a method found online which uses freezer paper and a printer.  I don't think these turned out too bad.  I still have 3 more to make but alas my printer is running out of ink.  I guess I'll be buying a new ink cartridge tomorrow.

Easy Triangles!

I have started my last quilt for the Castle Country Quilt Show on March 19th and 20th.

It involves a whole lot of triangles.  A few weeks ago I was trying to explain this easy way of doing triangles to my daughter over the phone.  She was not really understanding my explanation, being new to quilting.  So, here it is, nothing new to those of you who are experienced quilters, but to those who are trying triangles for the first time, this is a quick and easy way. 

You will start with squares.  Any size will do.  These just happen to be 6 and 7/8 inch squares.

Place squares with right sides together.

If you look close, or click on this image, you will see I have placed the squares of fabric with the diagonal line of my (sad) cutting mat running through the center, corner to corner.

With any straight ruler, draw a line from corner to corner.

Sew a seam 1/4 inch on both sides of the line.

Your squares will now look like this.

With scissors or a rotary cutter, cut on the line.

You will now have 2 sqaures that look like this.

You can place them in a number of combinations.  This will make a diamond shape.

This could be the start of a zig zag quilt.

You would start a pinwheel block like this.
